Outpatient maternity admissions in a licensed outpatient birthing center for a vaginal delivery. Upon discharge, this health plan provides benefits for one home visit by a Physician, Registered Nurse, Nurse Midwife or Nurse Practitioner within 48 hours of discharge. This visit may include: parent education; assistance and training in breast or bottle feeding; and appropriate tests. This health plan will provide benefits for more visits by a covered health care provider only if Blue Cross Blue Shield determines they are clinically necessary. When transferred from the birthing center to a general hospital for inpatient care, the member's cost share amount for inpatient maternity admissions will also apply (in addition to the cost share for birthing center charges.)
