Medex Choice covers Medicare-approved outpatient surgery, including related anesthesia, when the services are furnished by a HMO Blue provider. For services not covered by Medicare, Medex Choice provides full coverage for hospital and physician services for stem cell bone marrow transplants for breast cancer, as long as the services are furnished by an HMO Blue provider. This includes harvesting of the donor's stem cells when the recipient is a member and drug therapy during the transplant procedure to prevent rejection of the transplanted stem cells.
