This health plan covers alcoholism treatment. (Refer also to Mental Health and Substance Use Treatment - Non-Biologically Based Mental Conditions.) These covered services include:

Surgery furnished by a Physician, Podiatrist or Dentist and services of an assistant surgeon when Blue Cross Blue Shield decides an assistant is needed.

Medical care furnished by a Physician or Podiatrist and medical care furnished by a Physician other than the attending Physician to treat an uncommon aspect or complication of the member's illness or injury.

Intensive care services furnished by a Physician other than the attending Physician. This means services that are needed for only a limited number of hours to treat an uncommon aspect or complication of an illness or injury.

Emergency admission services furnished by a Physician. This means a complete history and physical exam of a member who is admitted as an inpatient for emergency medical care, when the treatment is taken over immediately by another Physician.
