In certain situations, Medicare provides full coverage for hospice services. For hospice services not covered in full by Medicare, this Medex plan covers hospice services. These benefits include:
Bereavement services. These services are provided to the family or primary care person after the death of the hospice patient. They can include contacts, counseling, communication and correspondence.
These benefits are provided only when: the patient has a terminal illness and is expected to live six months or less (as certified by a Physician); the patient and attending Physician have agreed to a plan of care that stresses pain control and symptom relief rather than curative treatment; an adult is the primary care person in the home; and the patient lives in the service area of the hospice provider.
For Medicare-approved services, Medex pays the difference between the Medicare payment and the Medex allowed charge. For hospice services not covered by Medicare, Medex pays full benefits.
